How to Buy a Car in North Carolina (Step-by-Step Guide)
Buying a car in North Carolina is straightforward once you know the sequence. Here is the whole process, start to finish, including the parts dealerships do not usually put in writing.
Step 1 — Work out what you can comfortably afford
Start with the monthly number you are comfortable with, then work backward. Include insurance, fuel, maintenance, and taxes and registration alongside the loan payment.

Step 2 — Choose the vehicle for how you actually drive
In Eastern North Carolina that usually comes down to commuting distance, whether you tow, how many people ride with you, and how much of your driving is highway. Be honest about the towing question — it is the one people most often get wrong in both directions.

Step 3 — Get pre-approved before you shop
Pre-approval tells you your real buying power and shortens the time you spend at the dealership. You can finance through a bank, a credit union, or through us — we work with multiple lenders.
Financing programs and rates depend on your credit profile and lender approval. Not every guest qualifies for every program.
Step 4 — Compare prices, and check how they are built
Look for a dealership that shows you what is in the number. Some post a low price and add fees later. Some negotiate, which means the person who negotiates hardest pays the least for the same vehicle.
We use One Simple Price: the posted price is upfront, market-based, and the same for everyone. Our $788 administrative fee is already included in it. Taxes, tag, title, and registration are separate and vary by where you register.

Step 5 — Test drive it properly
Drive the route you actually drive. Check visibility, seat comfort over more than five minutes, how the technology works with your phone, and — if you tow or haul — the bed or cargo area with something in it.
Schedule a test drive. We can also bring the vehicle to you.
HOME DELIVERY & TEST DRIVE — We believe you should be able to shop from the comfort of your home or office, and have your vehicle brought to you at your convenience.
Delivery is complimentary within 75 miles. Beyond that a delivery fee applies based on distance — ask us for the figure for your address.
Step 6 — Handle your trade-in
Get your trade appraised whether or not you buy from us. We will make you an offer either way.
OFFER TO PURCHASE — We believe that you should receive the best straightforward offer to purchase your vehicle even if you do not buy ours. This offer is good for 5 days or 300 miles and we will write a check directly to you if you decide to sell rather than trade.

Step 7 — Review the paperwork
You will need a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and typically proof of income and residence. Expect to see the vehicle price, Highway Use Tax, title and registration, and the dealer administrative fee. Ask for the full breakdown in writing before you sign — at any dealership.
Most purchases take one to three hours. Being pre-approved and bringing your documents is what shortens it.

Step 8 — After you sign
Eligible retail purchases at our store include a 5-Day / 300-Mile Money-Back Guarantee. As-Traded and Wholesale to the Public vehicles are excluded, and delivery fees are not refundable under the guarantee.
You will work with one person through the whole process, including the paperwork.
SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT — We believe you should have your own personal automotive resource. Our Product Specialists are trained to understand you and your needs, and take you through the entire process including your paperwork. One person every step of the way.
